Boulder Racing officially re-branded as Without Limits Productions in 2013

Boulder Racing officially re-branded as Without Limits Productions in 2013

To the Colorado cycling community the staff of Boulder Racing and Without Limits Productions would like to let you know about some exciting changes and updates for your 2013 season.

In 2010 Without Limits Productions purchased Boulder Racing, a long standing company founded in 1999.  For over 11 years Boulder Racing was instrumental in building the Colorado cyclo-cross and road scene into what we know today.  Upon taking over for the 2011 season we sought to take things to the next level, building upon the pioneering foundation set by Boulder Racing.  For the past two seasons our resources have been focused on developing new venues (Sienna Lake, Valmont Bike Park) and introducing the chip timing system utilized at our other endurance sports events, all the while sticking to our core mission of affordable racing.

When the 2011 season kicked off we made the decision to keep Boulder Racing and Without Limits Productions as two separate companies.  Boulder Racing not only had a longer history, but a strong reputation in the cycling community for professionally organized events.  Without Limits were the new guys from the triathlon world and our plan wasn't to mix oil and water.

With the cross over between road cycling, cyclo-cross, running, and triathlon, we were able to borrow operational tools from the various events (timing and registration) to enhance our cycling races. After two seasons we quickly realized that the worlds were not as separate as we previously thought, and there was an enormous amount of athlete cross over between disciplines.

From the racer perspective we started to receive more confusion in 2012.  Athletes were asking: is this a WL or BR event, this is a blue chip race so it must be WL, but it's an old BR style course?  So in our endless pursuit to make things easier we are eliminating any confusion.   Our core mission has always been twofold; to bring the endurance community together where they can enjoy locally produced, affordable, and professionally organized events.  Operating as two separate entities no longer serves its initial purpose as we continue to adhere to our mission while developing new events (outside Boulder), and taking our existing races to the next level.

For 2013, all Boulder Racing events (Louisville Criterium, The Koppenberg, Mike Horgan Hill Climb, and the Boulder Cyclocross Series) will be re-branded under Without Limits Productions.  What does that mean for you the athlete?  Less confusion at the registration table, and one website where you can find all your favorite races, that’s about it.  We will still continue to bring you the best possible race experience, while improving on processes from race to race.  The same standard you have come to know over the past two years will continue to be improved in 2013, making things easier, smoother, all the while keeping racing affordable and fun.

The more important question you must have; what's the future hold?  While we could talk for hours about the future enhancements of our events what we will briefly say is the past two seasons are a small preview to what's coming down the pipeline.  The timing system, registration changes, water trailer (cyclocross), and snowplow (cyclocross) are a good foundation, and we’ll continue to improve upon them.  However, keep a look out in 2013 for some unique new events, new sponsors, venues, and entry giveaway promotions.  On that note we invite you to follow our new facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/WithoutLimitsProductions, and look for 2013 registration to open February 1st!

We'll see you at the races,

Without Limits Expands with First Hire!

As many of you know Without Limits Productions, founded in 2007, was founded on the principles that the Colorado Endurance Community was one family.  Veteran, first timer, pro, cyclists, triathlete, runner, or weekend warrior we were all part of the same endurance tribe.  We took the same mindset when it came to race production literally.  It's been an amazing journey and roller coaster as we've grown from a few local triathlons and branched out in the cycling/cyclocross world across the country with 4x events back in Cape Cod and North Carolina.  The key to keeping the "cart on the tracks" has been a face you've all seen at a packet pick-up or at the AQUAMAN Swim Series, our sister Candy Panigutti.  She's the glue that keeps it all together and the peacemaker for two brothers when times get stressful.  Now entering our 5th season we're proud to have her come on board as our first true hire.  We can't thank her enough for all the time and late nights she's sacrificed these past few seasons.  Curious how Candy got her start in triathlon and what made her fall in love with this crazy sport of ours?

My First Triathlon and Discovering Family by Candy Panigutti
July, 1998…How did I get here and why am I the only person not wearing a wetsuit? There I stood staring at the ocean waves in Falmouth, Massachusetts wondering .…did I miss something in the rules packet that required wetsuits?   I spent several years traveling around the northeast watching my brothers compete in triathlons for years, but somehow forgot that I was supposed to have 3mm of rubber to protect me from jellyfish! The switch from loyal spectator to competitor was going to be a cold, painful one!

I now find myself standing next to my brothers on the beach instead of behind them with a camera as a spectator. My nervous energy was at an all-time high, but knowing my family was nearby with unconditional support had a calming effect.  Wetsuit or not, I dive in and start well due to my swimming background and move quickly on to transition. My brother’s pre-race advice meant that if I put on socks, shorts or a t-shirt, they would pretend not to know me! So my 40lb orange mountain bike and I were off rather quickly. As I biked along the Atlantic Ocean, I fell in love with triathlon and discovered what made triathlon different and superior to other sports. Other racers repeatedly sped by me, but instead of yelling at me to “move over” or “pick a new sport” I heard encouraging words similar to what I would hear from my own family such as “keep up the good work #274” and “keep pushing”. I had discovered my triathlon “race family”. I continued to hear these encouraging phrases each time I was passed on the run as well. I may not have been the fastest racer on the course, but I finished with my held high and proud thanks to my fellow race family’s reassurance.

I continue to compete in triathlon every year for the same reasons as most of the readers of this article, it provides me a competitive outlet, keeps me in shape, and allows for a variety of training to prevent boredom. But I LOVE triathlon because of the family that surrounds me at all times. On the race course, strangers and volunteers support me with encouraging words, a phenomena that I never witnessed in other sports. As a race volunteer, I feel deep pride in every beginner athlete that crosses the finish line hours after nervously collecting their race packet and asking 100 questions.  And working for Without Limits allows me to stay close to my personal family and knowing that when I do race, they will still be next to me to remind me not to wear the socks!

Steamboat Triathlon Changes Hands

Steamboat Triathlon Changes Hands

After two very successful seasons the Steamboat Triathlon has handed the reigns over to Without Limits Productions.  The move takes place as the original creators of the Steamboat Triathlon sought to take the event to the next level, a one of a kind destination event.  Without Limits Productions, Colorado’s largest multi-sport event company and founders of the Colorado Triathlon Tour, were the perfect match!  To Without Limits the most important component of this event moving forward is community involvement and a lasting benefit to the surrounding businesses.  “Steamboat has such a supportive and thriving community that our goal is for the citizens, business owners, and designated charity to feel that this is truly “their event” and take credit for its success.  The Steamboat Triathlon wouldn’t be what it is today without their committed involvement” – Lance Panigutti, co-owner Without Limits Productions.  In 2011 participants can expect the same gorgeous venue and intimate race environment, but with slightly longer distances.  The current course of a 3/4m Swim, 22m Bike, and 4m Run, has been expanded to become a true Olympic Distance Event (1.5k Swim, 24.8m Bike, 6.2m Run).

To help local and front range athletes prepare a new event has been established for July 24th just 20 miles north of Lake Catamount, the Steamboat Lake Sprint Triathlon.  This new event, featuring a 1/2m Swim, 12.4m Bike, and 3.1m Run, has breathtaking scenery in its own right, is very beginner friendly, and offers the perfect excuse for non local athletes to get away during the hot summer month of July!

The 2011 Olympic Distance Event will take place on August 28th, just one day after the Quiznos Pro Challenge departs on Stage 5 from downtown Steamboat, ensuring an action packed weekend of cycling and triathlon for all!  Athletes and families arriving on Friday will be able to spectate the downtown finish of the Quiznos Pro Challenge Stage 4 (Avon to Steamboat), a truly once in a lifetime opportunity!

Without Limits Productions Comes Back to its Roots!

The 2011 New England Triathlon Tour
‘A New Direction’
Time Out! Productions Welcomes Without Limits Productions

(Plymouth, Massachusetts…February 04, 2011) On February 04, 2011, in an arrangement between Time Out! Productions of Plymouth, Massachusetts and Without Limits Productions LLC of Denver, Colorado, the ownership/  directorship of the New England Triathlon Tour changed hands effective for the 2011 racing season, which will mark the Tour’s 27thcampaign. Time Out! Productions President Rich Havens has presided over each Triathlon Tour race since the series program was established in 1985. Ironically, Without Limits principals Tony and Lance Panigutti began competing in triathlon in 1996, making frequent pilgrimages from their Connecticut home northward to most of the Tour’s events conducted on Cape Cod and in Vermont, New Hampshire and south-central Massachusetts.

The 2011 New England Triathlon Tour will offer its usual complement of popular races on Cape Cod:
·        June 11: Hyannis Sprint 1 Triathlon at Craigville Beach (swim ¼-mi; bike 10-mi; run 3.5-mi)
·        July 17: Falmouth Sprint Triathlon at Surf Drive Beach (swim 1/3-mi; bike 9-mi; run 3.1-mi)
·        Sept 10: Hyannis Sprint 2 Triathlon at Craigville Beach (swim ¼-mi; bike 10-mi; run 3.5-mi)

Havens expresses, “To say that my 26 years directing triathlons since 1985 has been ‘life changing’ would greatly understate truth. Knowing that our races have contributed to shape the sport and have given so many people opportunities to challenge themselves physically delights me. During June of last year, the energetic and ambitious Panigutti brothers stepped forward and presented me with an offer to catapult the Triathlon Tour to a new and exciting level for our triathletes and our host race communities. Their new leadership will allow me to steer my Time Out! Productions company, similarly, in a new and exciting direction”.

Anticipating Without Limits first season managing the popular Triathlon Tour, Tony Panigutti indicated, “To us Time Out! Productions holds such a special place in our development as triathletes, individuals, and business men that can never be replaced.  Those summer days racing all over New England is where it all began for us and without those experiences we never would be the triathletes and race directors we are today.  To acquire Time Out!’s New England Triathlon Tour is much more than a dream; it’s a passing of the torch.  We hope to inspire the future generations of triathletes and race directors in the same manner that Rich brought out the best in us.

N.E. Tri Tour: A New Direction

As with any passing of the torch the goal is to build upon the past.  Rich has done an incredibly remarkable job over the years that if nothing changed from 2010 the races would continue to be among the best events worldwide and excel in every way.  However, our goal is to add a bit of innovation and cosmetic e-enhancements for 2011.  We hope to tie in some of our long standing partnerships to the New England market and be able give the athlete even more of what they love; more goodies, more raffles, and more fun!  Beyond 2012 the sky is the limit.  I think we can all agree that the New England Triathlon Tour has some old time favorite venues that we personally would love to see return; stay tuned, and we’ll see you at the beach in 2011!”

The New England Triathlon Tour’s roots were established in 1985 by current B.A.A. Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray, whose vision for the sport in the New England region resulted from his participation in the renown ‘Ironman Triathlon’ staged in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. McGillivray and his special event company ‘DMSE’ presented one ‘International-distance’ race in each of the six New England states at a time when triathlon was considered to be ‘the sport of the ‘80s’. McGillivray hired Havens, previously an executive for the Dunfey Hotel group, to serve as Executive Director for the program then entitled the New England Triathlon Series (NETS). Through the years, NETS flourished with the natural growth of multi-sport and in great part due to the timely sponsorship support of the New England Toyota Dealers in conjunction with the Sports Museum of New England.  In 1993, Havens ambition to strike out on his own lead him to the creation of his own special event company, Time Out! Productions. During 1996, Havens and McGillivray reached an agreement whereby Time Out! assumed ownership and directorship of the series and whereupon the New England Triathlon Tour label came to be. The Tour in addition to its long-time races on Cape Cod included the Martha’s Vineyard Triathlon Festival, New England Triathlon Festival-Sunapee (NH), Fairlee Great Triathlon (Fairlee, VT) and the Massachusetts Triathlon (Sharon, MA).

Since 1993, Time Out! Productions continued its work with the Triathlon Tour and added other events to its resume in either ownership or consulting capacities…the likes of the B.A.A. Boston Marathon (Finish Area Coordinator); Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championship (Sponsor Signage Coordinator); Best Buddies Hyannisport Challenge (Course Logistics Coordinator); Reach The Beach Relay-New Hampshire and Massachusetts (Start & Finish Line Management); We Gather Together 5K (Director). Havens currently is constructing the New England Bike Tours, a cycling vacation concept with a hopeful launch in 2012.

In 2007, the Paniguttis elected to depart from their respective planned career paths and instead assumed ‘risk and adventure’ by opening their own special event management company, Without Limits Productions. In 2008 their aim was to start small with three triathlons which would parallel Time Out! Productions’ mission of presenting value with a ‘laid back’ feel. That mission ‘caught fire’ as three triathlons soon snowballed to a dozen events by 2009 then 24 in 2010; wherein each triathlon sold out.  Their Colorado collection of events include the Summer Open Sprint Triathlon, Outdoor Divas Sprint Triathlon, XTERRA Lory Triathlon, Harvest Moon Half, Oktoberfest Sprint, America’s Cup USAT Aquathon Nationals, Aquaman Series, Dash ‘n Dine 5K Series and Colorado ‘Cyclo X’ Cross Cup.
